Summer fellowship and learning activities

Summertime is upon us, and many are looking forward to spending time and participating in activities with family and friends. During this time, we are reminded of the enduring strength and unity of the Chickasaw people. Summer has long been a season of togetherness and a time when families gather, communities reconnect and our traditions come alive through celebrations, learning and service.

This month marks the beginning of a vibrant season filled with opportunities to participate in cultural events, youth programs and other activities and celebrations throughout the Chickasaw Nation. From summer camps that educate and inspire our youth, to celebrations and events that inspire community and keep our traditions thriving, we are investing in the future while honoring our past.

We are proud to offer a wide array of youth programs this summer, including a variety of beneficial camps, clinics and academies. Thousands of youths take part in these programs each summer that cover a range of interests, like arts, science, outdoors, culture, life skills, sports and more. These initiatives help build confidence, leadership and a sense of identity in our youth, ensuring they remain connected, build friendships and continue to grow.

Additionally, hundreds of students will take part in crucial workforce training and skill development as part of the Toksali SMART program. Participants will build valuable skills through job shadowing, mentorship, leadership opportunities and other trainings.

For Chickasaw families, elders and others in our communities, we continue to gather for community events that offer a chance for fellowship, camaraderie, learning and more, such as the annual Artesian Arts Festival, Chickasaw Elders Conference and Chickasaw Veterans Conference. Cultural demonstrations and activities take place throughout the summer at the Chickasaw Cultural Center.

Summer is also a perfect time to explore the many museums, outdoor and natural sites throughout our treaty territory, including the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, Chickasaw White House, Chickasaw Nation Historic Capitol Building and more. These spaces tell the story of our perseverance and invite all who visit to learn and share in our unique experience.

At the heart of all we do is our mission to enhance the overall quality of life of the Chickasaw people. Whether through education, health, culture or community-building, our efforts this summer, and always, are grounded in the values of service, unity and progress.

As we enjoy the beauty, togetherness and spirit of this season, we look forward to everyone taking part in the many events and activities available. Let us celebrate who we are as Chickasaws and continue the great progress of the Chickasaw Nation.

May your summer be joyful, enriching, and filled with the blessings of community.
