Celebrating culture and honoring service

As we welcome the month of November, we have the opportunity to celebrate two special and powerful observances. Native American Heritage Month and Veterans Day give us the chance to reflect on and celebrate our unique culture, the vibrant story of our people, and the courage of those who serve and protect the freedoms we all cherish.

Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate the enduring legacy, cultural richness, and resilience of Chickasaws throughout history and today. For the Chickasaw Nation, it is a time to honor the spirit of our ancestors who overcame adversity with strength, resiliency and an unbreakable commitment to the future of our Nation. From our Homeland in the southeast United States to thriving communities in Oklahoma and beyond, the Chickasaw people have continued to adapt, lead and contribute to every facet of American life.

Our language, culture and traditions remain strong, and we work hard to preserve and share them through a variety of programs and services. As Chickasaws, we are proud of who we are, where we come from, and where we are going. Native American Heritage Month offers a chance to look back with reverence as we remain committed to looking forward with purpose.

As we celebrate our heritage, we also pause to honor the brave men and women who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States. Veterans Day reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy have been protected by generations of courageous individuals.

First Americans have served in the U.S. military at higher rates per capita than any other group. Chickasaw warriors have proudly worn the uniform in every major conflict since the founding of this country, which highlights the deep-rooted values of honor, service and sacrifice of our people throughout history. Their bravery has been tested on battlefields around the world, and their legacy endures.

To all Chickasaw veterans, and to every American who has answered the call of duty, we are profoundly grateful. We appreciate their service and sacrifice to ensure that our country remains free, and our liberties are protected.

The Chickasaw Nation is proud to honor our veterans and active-duty military members with a range of programs and opportunities. We encourage Chickasaw service members to learn more about the Chickasaw Warrior Society, Veterans Lodge and the many resources our Veterans Services offers.

As we move through this month of remembrance and celebration, we encourage all to celebrate Native American Heritage Month and the vibrant culture and rich heritage of our people, past and present. And let us always honor those who have proudly served our country with courage and commitment.

This is a month of gratitude and celebration, for our heritage, for our veterans, and for the enduring strength of the Chickasaw people.
