Chickasaw Nation license plates will be available February 2, 2015 at state-licensed tag agencies throughout Oklahoma.

Governor Bill Anoatubby said the license plates offered Chickasaws a very visible way to demonstrate their pride.

“Many Chickasaws are very pleased they will have license plates which recognize their tribal citizenship,” Gov. Anoatubby said. “These plates also offer savings to Chickasaw citizens while continuing vehicle tag funding dedicated to roads, schools, state employee retirement and other state programs.”

Those who want to purchase the tags will present their Chickasaw Nation citizenship card matching the name on the registered vehicle at the time of purchase.

While license plates requested between renewal dates will be subject to an additional fee for a replacement plate, standard fees and taxes will apply to tags purchased at the regular renewal date.

After the transaction, the Oklahoma Tax Commission will notify the Chickasaw Nation and send a rebate for a percentage of the fees and taxes.

The Chickasaw Nation will then issue a rebate for a portion of the fees and taxes to each citizen purchasing a tag.

All non-commercial vehicles registered to Chickasaw citizens are eligible. License plates may be purchased for multiple vehicles within the same household.

Personalized Chickasaw license plates will be available at the same cost as other personalized plates. Chickasaws who wish to purchase a personalized plate may contact their local tag agency for information regarding costs and availability.

Gov. Anoatubby and Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed the license plate compact October 23, 2014.

Availability of the Chickasaw license plates is dependent on the Oklahoma Tax Commission delivering license plates to tag agencies.
